2024 Estate Kristi Chardonnay

Named for our beloved, Kristi Huber, this is the sixth crafting of this incredibly popular Chardonnay. The wine is very special to the Stone Tower family. This vintage may be one of the most special ones we have created – a true example of artistry in winemaking. James understood the importance of this wine to Stone Tower and took special care in crafting the wine. Four days prior to the harvest, he hand-picked four vines into a bucket, crushed them by hand, and put them under a shady tree. This process, called "pied de cuve", creates a fermentation starter to inoculate the juice once it is ready – not unlike creating a sourdough starter. Using native yeast to take the lead in starting the fermentation really highlights the true terroir of our land. When the grapes were pressed, they were cold-settled to clarify the juice. The juice was then divided between the concrete egg, the amphora, and stainless tank. The pied de cuve was added to start fermentation. After fermentation was complete, the stainless steel portion was transferred to neutral barrels for the remaining 8 months and then blended with the wine from the egg and the amphora. That's how the final 2024 Krist Chardonnay was born.

The wine has a lovely platinum color and a nose of delicate white glower, subtle honeydew, and a touch of pear. These characteristics extend through the palate and there is also a touch of minerality and salinity. The finish underscores the delicate nature of the wine, soft and lingering. Serve the wine at 55°- 56° and pair it with Eggs Benedict, seafood, grilled pork, and veal; vegetables like red peppers, corn, butternut squash, and pumpkin; creamy pasta, and a variety of cheeses. Enjoy this wine now through 2028.
