2022 Estate Viognier Reserve

Viognier was our first planting – 2009. The grape is indigenous to the Northern Rhone Valley of France – the village of Condrieu produces some of the best. Like the wines of this region, this Estate Viognier is beautifully aromatic with a full-bodied creamy texture. This wine is a classic example of Viognier elegance with stunning floral aromatics. It can be said – that V stands for voluptuous when it comes to this wine.  It has beautiful notes of peach, apricot, gingerbread, and honeysuckle on the palate with a touch of lemon curd on the finish. The wine was finished in acacia, accentuating the round creaminess of the varietal. Acacia also plays a part in the distinctive lemony finish and preserves the texture and freshness of the varietal.  The Viognier spent 9 months in a combination of oak and acacia. It is a real example of excellent craftsmanship in winemaking.  The wine is especially good when paired with spicy foods and those with ginger, saffron and coconut. The wine is often referred to as chardonnay’s exotic stepsister.  Drink now through 2030. By the way Viognier is the Virginia State Grape - the Virginia Wine Board designated it the state’s official grape for national branding purposes in May 2011.
