2022 Estate Cabernet Franc
This wine is a striking example of the varietal and how good it can be in Virginia. The wine is extremely self-assured. On the nose we experience a brightness of cherry and blackberry, with an insinuation of violets. On the palate the fruit in the wine comes to life and we experience a suggestion of chocolate. The tannins are supple, and round and the wine lingers on the finish with a soupçon of black pepper. The wine has benefited from the craftsmanship of the winemaking team. The selection of an extended time in French oak and the perfect combination of new and used wood bring a texture and mouthfeel to the wine that is absolutely superb. You could easily drink this wine by itself and certainly by yourself. It is so lovely and balanced and gets better with every sip. Correctly pairing wines with food always bring out the best in both. Make a Beef Bourguignon or other rich beef, pork or veal stew and you will be in love. Try roasting a chicken surrounded by all kinds of vegetables that will caramelize as they cook – delicious. Roasted root and other vegetables will bring the wine to life. We always like to pair wines with cheese and with this wine the choices are vast – Blue - Roquefort, Stilton, Gorgonzola, Goat – Chevre, feta, Garrotxa, aged and smoked Gouda, and how can we forget Brie. Drink this wine now or enjoy it through 2030.
