2020 Estate Hogback Mountain
Hogback Mountain is comprised of all Estate-grown fruit. This is an incredibly balanced wine, blended in a traditional Left Bank Bordeaux style. The wine is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and blended with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Like most Left Bank Bordeaux style wines Hogback Mountain is concentrated and powerful. It has a beautiful nose dominated by black fruit and violet with a bit of forest floor. On the palate we experience cassis, blackberry, dark cherry, vanilla, and a touch of licorice. The wine is firm and tannic. As the wine ages, we will see the tannins soften resulting in a smooth long finish. This vintage of Hogback Mountain pairs well with grilled and roasted meats such as lamb, beef, veal, and game. It is excellent with robust stews. Hard cheeses like Cheshire and Red Leicester are also excellent pairings. This wine is exceptional and somewhat reminiscent of the 2017 Hogback. As this wine bottle ages, through the next 10 – 12 years, it could easily be one of our best to date.
