2018 Estate Viognier
When we first planted grapes back in 2009, we started with Viognier and that original 2.8 acre block is the sole fruit source for this small production wine. Native to the Northern Rhone Valley of France (in and around the village of Condrieu), this grape produces intensely aromatic wines that have a beautiful medium- to full-bodied texture and are typically produced in a dry style. From a viticultural and winemaking standpoint, there is not much room for error with Viognier and is therefore quite challenging, but when you get it right, it produces a highly complex and distinctive wine that’s food-friendly and capable of aging! This wine is fermented and aged in French oak (with just a touch of new barrels) to produce a phenomenal wine from the estate.
