2017 Wild Boar Petit Manseng-Viognier
In a country often obsessed with single varietal wines, blended whites are often overlooked. A successful blend isgreater than the sum of its individual parts. With each variety bringing a different set of aromas, flavors, and textures, a mixture can result in a more complex, balanced wine. These two varietals compliment one another beautifully. First, both grapes are extraordinarily aromatic, and as such, they compete as equals (withoutone outshining the other). They aromatically bring a LOT to the table. Second, they structurally balance oneanother out: Petit Manseng has very high acidity; Viognier typically has rather low acidity. In this specific blend, the Petit Manseng adds a wonderful brightness and zippiness to the broad, silky mouthfeel of the Viognier. This wine is sourced entirely from a single vineyard site outside Charlottesville, VA.
